Dear <personName>Rebecca</personName>

I was pleased to see you make your appearce last week in your own proper hand writing as I confess I had some suspicions that you had injured your hand more than <personName>Henry</personName> had admitted. It might really have been a serious accident and should be a warning to you to be more careful when you go to the hydrant.

I am really kept too much engaged for any kind of comfort and shall be well satisfied when I leave this for home - the best place in the world for every body & particulary for a temperament, habits & disposition like my own.

We have spent two weeks here very uselessly. The one in discussing the slavery question brought on by <personName>Mr. Adams</personName> conduct in presenting petitions & the other in the trial of <personName>R M Whitney</personName> for a contempt in refusing to appear before our Committee
