Last night, after being at the House from 9 OClock in the morning, we did not adjourn untill after 10 at night. Then I was compelled to go to a party much against my own wishes where we were detained untill after 12 OClock & when I looked at my watch going to bed I found it One OClock. Before I left the breakfast room there were vistors who remained untill 11 OClock & then under <hi>pretence</hi> of going to church I got rid of them, not to go to church but to take a walk & get a little fresh air of which I felt much in want & now at One I am at my table scrawling as hard as I can to let you see at least that I am still in the land of the living. A delightful morning it is and as you have had your dinner by this time I suppose you will feel enclined for a nap & then I trust you too will take the air & find it cheering and reviving. Symptoms of vegetation are begining to show themselves here & if this fine weather continues they will show themselves with you also. It is however rather too early to be permanent - but
