I have not desired that it should take place before now. But <personName>Buck</personName> has blabbed & there are suspicions afloat at <placeName>Harrisburgh</placeName><placeName>Lancaster</placeName> <placeName>Philadelphia</placeName> and even here and the consequence is that is I am flooded with letters protesting &c. I am therefore anxious to bring it to a conclusion because I cannot well give a reply untill it is finally decided. The Dr at <placeName>Lancaster</placeName> has heard the report & he strongly urges me accept if offered. As soon as the ^<add>Mississippi</add>vote is taken in the House, <deletion>this</deletion> ^<add>nomination</add> will go to the Senate & be decided in a short time.
Your lace came safe & I see no harm in having sent it by mail.
I have been interrupted for a whole hour & must therefore close.
I will write to you the moment things are settled here — and let you know when I may be expected home. I hope it will not get intensely cold, but I have my fears.
Yours sincerely <personName>Hen A Muhlenberg</personName>
