Dr. George A. Lee [head of the sociology department and director of the Educational Opportunity Pilot Progam (EOP)] with two students involved in the Education Opportunity Program, ca. 1968. The students are identified as Roderick Rhymer and Barbara L. Bowens, both from Harlem, NY.
The EOP was conceived in late 1967 by the Academic Policy Committee and Dean Philip Secor. The program, which sought to bring students of color from New York City and Philadelphia to Muhlenberg, began in the summer of 1968 with six students and continued through the 1970-1971 academic year. This series of photographs was taken by the Public Relations department during the summer of 1968.
