Course Reserves: Leave the Driving to Us

Library staff are well-equipped to support your course reserves needs. In the new year, we will work directly with Moodle or Blackboard, bypassing the old e-reserves platform (Docutek) to provide immediate access by your students to the documents they need, no additional password required.

At any point in the semester, just provide the Reserves Office with a citation to an article, or book. We will scan any document within copyright allowance, and seek out and, as funding permits, pay for permission (Provost-provided funding) for that which exceeds fair use.

We can also make clips of audio and film for purposes of streaming.

For more information, contact Reserves Asst. Jonathan Macasevich.

Copyright Policy and Primer

About 2-3 years ago, the campus Copyright Committee appointed by the Provost penned a copyright policyand primer, vetted by the College attorney. The policy details the College’s official stance on copyright. The primer gives some additional guidelines, including common copyright scenarios encountered by employees and students.

If you have questions about copyright pertaining to your teaching and research, don’t hesitate to contactKelly Cannon, Outreach and Scholarly Communication Librarian.

Also, a “Coffee and Copyright” informational session will be held during Common Hour next week (see Calendar below), providing a review of the basics of copyright in teaching and research. You are most welcome to attend!

Infomaniac Tip

Online Advent Calendar

Infomaniac knows well enough the pleasure that an Advent calendar can add to an already festive season. Is it any wonder that some Advent calendars have now moved online? Check out The Economist Daily Chart Advent Calendar, containing under its several windows “a collection of the 24 most popular maps, charts, data visualisations and interactive features” published by The Economist over the past year. Infomaniac couldn’t be more pleased.
