MDID Art Images Database

A new online repository for high-resolution art images is now available campus-wide to all faculty, staff, and students. The repository, called MDID, can store images, and display them in high resolution for teaching and research, including use in Powerpoint presentations at conferences.

Currently Muhlenberg’s MDID database contains several thousand carefully chosen images of world art and architecture, purchased outright from the image vendor Scholars Resource.

To access the database and its contents from anywhere on campus visit http://mdid.muhlenberg.edu and choose Guest Login, then Browse. You can browse the existing collection by title, artist, etc. Click on the thumbnail to view the larger image.

How can I view an image in the highest resolution possible in MDID?

To go beyond the viewing capabilities of your Internet browser, MDID offers a free-to-install viewer that allows superb resolution of the digital image, plus magnification of detail and comparison of images side by side. For information about the viewer, call x3602 or reply to this email.

What if the artist or work I’m interested in does not already appear in the database?

Images can be purchased using a portion of a department’s library funds. To find out what is available for purchase from our current vendor, or to discuss alternative sources for image purchases, call x3602 or reply to this email.

E-reserves

Last spring, Trexler Library began offering a new service called E-Reserves. The service enables professors to post reserve items online so that students can access them from anywhere. Library staff take care of any copyright concerns related to the items posted to e-reserves, paying permission fee with funds authorized by the Provost’s Office. At this time there are already 525 items in the system, three times the amount there were at this point last semester. We’re excited to be offering this service and are thrilled to see the faculty taking full advantage it.
