Barack Obama shows his tech initiative – The Technology, Innovation and Government Reform Team (TIGR) has been established to make optimum use of technology for communication, to create a more transparent and connected democracy, and promote public participation.

Other changes:

  • For the first time ever, an official White House blog came online
  • Obama is the first U.S. president to have an RSS feed!
  • President Obama has more followers on Twitter than anyone else (168,000).
  • His fan page on Facebook has more than 4 million fans.
  • President Obama is getting to keep his BlackBerry – after security concerns were addressed, such as the potential for the device to leak classified information or his GPS coordinates
  • Obama has appointed the nation’s first Chief Technology Officer to work with federal agencies to oversee the country’s internet security and deploy next-generation broadband

On Tuesday, Feb 17th, the Center for Ethics series, Politics, Ethics & Citizenship continues with a public talk by Nadine Strossen, Former President of the ACLU
Lecture topic:  “President Obama and the Supreme Court – A Conversation with Nadine Strossen”

Nadine Strossen, Professor of Law at New York Law School, is the former President of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a position she held from 1991-2008.  She was the first woman to head the ACLU, the nation’s largest and oldest civil liberties organization.
