Trexler Library and WMUH 91.7 are co-sponsoring a recording session of original poetry to be aired over WMUH in celebration of UNESCO World Poetry Day. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to read works of original or out-of-copyright (pre-1923) poetry of short to medium length. The session will be broadcast on WMUH 91.7 on March 21 at noon.
According to the UNESCO website the day: “is meant to support poetry, return to the oral tradition of poetry recitals, promote teaching poetry, restore a dialogue between poetry and the other arts such as theatre, dance, music, painting and so on, support small publishers and create an attractive image of poetry in the media so that the art of poetry will no longer be considered an outdated form of art but one which enables society as a whole to regain and assert
its identity.”
