Infomaniac Tip of the Week

Do you know about the Internet Archive?

What is it?
Founded in 1996, the Internet Archive (IA) is a non-profit organization “with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format.” The IA receives institutional support from Alexa Internet, HP, National Science Foundation, Library of Congress, and others. Visit the Internet Archive athttp://www.archive.org/ .

What can I use it for?
Finding archived versions of web pages
The Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine allows you to browse archived versions of web pages, from 1996 to just a few months ago. Curious what Muhlenberg’s homepage looked like in 1997? Or 2003? See http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.muhlenberg.edu for archived versions.
Search the Wayback Machine for archived versions of your favorite web page.

Accessing digital items and collections
The Internet Archive also features libraries of textsaudio (plus live music recordings), andmoving images (movies, films, and videos). For example, see the Digital Yiddish Librarycollection, listen to Old Time Radio shows, or watch a film on Dating Do’s and Don’ts from 1949.
Browse or search for items on your favorite topic.
