Trexler Library Scuttlebutt

A Bi-Weekly Update

Access to Scholarly E-Texts from Springer

Trexler Library has recently made a significant addition to its e-book collection: more then 20,000 books published 2005-2010 by Springer, vendor of scholarly texts in the sciences and a handful of other disciplines. Here is an Excel list of all titles in the collection. Any and all can be searched by title or author in the libraryonline catalog, linking out to the full text.

Reader’s Guide Retrospective, 1890-1982

Some Scuttlebutt readers recall the days of yore when we slogged through the olive green volumes of the Reader’s Guide in search of periodical articles. While magazines from the last thirty years are now archived and readily accessible through online subscription aggregrators like Academic Search Premier (Ebsco) and LexisNexis Academic, accessing those pre-1980 periodicals for historical purposes has been nearly impossible without (yes, it’s true) going to the olive green volumes of the Reader’s Guide.

But this has all changed–for the better. Muhlenberg College affiliates can now access all the Reader’s Guide indexing online through Readers Guide Retrospective (1890-1982). The “Get It” link for each record connects the user to the library’s holdings record, or to the request form for interlibrary loan.
