New Library System

Muhlenberg College is adopting a new “integrated library system (ILS).” After extensive testing of different systems, library staff selected a new ILS called WorldShare Management.

The new ILS will manage many aspects of the library, from purchasing to licensing to cataloging to circulation–far outpacing our current system. (The current system/catalog, to be retired June 30, 2015, will soon lose vendor support.)

What does this change mean for library users?

Encompass Search, the discovery tool of the new ILS, offers library users:
  • Access to our collection, including
    • an additional 100,000+ ebooks and streaming video titles (not in our current system/catalog)
    • thousands of articles from multiple databases
  • Access to other libraries’ collections
  • Links to interlibrary loan
with…
  • An updated interface optimized for use on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
More information about the new system will be distributed over the next few months via email, library liaison meetings, etc.  Questions? Query refdesk@muhlenberg.edu.
