PaLA Conference at Muhlenberg a Great Success

Over 170 librarians from all over the region attended the 2010 Pennsylvania Library Association-Lehigh Valley Chapter Conference, held in Moyer Hall, Trumbower Hall, and Shankweiler Hall on Thursday May 20. The College received much positive feedback about the beautiful campus grounds and facilities. Sodexo did a great job serving a sit-down lunch to the capacity-crowd in Miller Forum. Kudos too to Plant Ops and Campus Safety for their assistance.

Some of highlights of the conference:

Dr. Kenny Crews, J.D., Ph.D., chief copyright officer at Columbia U., spoke on digital copyright and academic institutions: “The law never keeps pace with changing needs and technologies, so the difficult fit between digital collections and copyright is no surprise. How can libraries digitize collections and make them available? What options remain lurking deep within the federal copyright statutes?”

Dr. Marie Radford from the LIS program at Rutgers U., addressed “coping with tight budgets, high client expectations, constant change, technology, and the multiple time constraints that threaten our professional equilibrium. Despite these realities, we as librarians are challenged to consider the possibility of outstanding and personalized services to every library user.”
