Open Access Resolution Adopted at Muhlenberg College

On November 7, 2014, the faculty voted to support an open access (OA) resolution. Specifically, the resolution asks faculty to send to library staff the “author’s final version” of peer reviewed journal articles. Contingent of journal publisher policy, these author’s final versions (fully peer reviewed, but not yet publisher formatted) will then be deposited in the Muhlenberg College Digital Repository for the world to access (records will appear in Google searches). Studies have shown that the placement of faculty -authored articles in such online repositories greatly increases the “hits” on these articles, promoting their citation in subsequent scholarly publications. Unfettered access to faculty research has been shown to be particularly beneficial to scholars in lesser developed nations.
